Support group for LGBTQ+ individuals

Category: Other
This group is aimed at University of Warsaw students who, due to their gender identity or psychosexual orientation, may experience a particular type of stress, tension, or anxiety. Non-heteronormative, non-binary, and transgender individuals face many challenges, such as the process of coming out and self-acceptance, experiencing discrimination, rejection by peers or family. For this reason, LGBTQ+ individuals may experience minority stress – a specific type of tension related to their personal and social situation, which is reinforced by ongoing systemic discrimination or lack of supportive measures, e.g., during the transition process.
Research shows that this makes them more vulnerable to depression, anxiety disorders, suicidal thoughts, and harmful use of psychoactive substances.
We especially invite individuals to the support group who:
- would like to find support from others and better understand their experiences,
- feel lost or lonely,
- have difficulty forming close friendships or romantic relationships,
- would like to discuss their feelings around coming out or, more broadly, minority stress,
- struggle with dilemmas related to their gender identity or psychosexual orientation,
- face challenges related to the transition process,
- experience other difficult emotions related to their family or social situation.
